Chardonnay

Great importance is placed on fruit and elegance. And to better emphasise the minerality and storability, the Chardonnay is matured in the large wooden barrels.

Sauvignon Blanc

The vineyard borders the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park, and has - because of the close proximity to the lake - the perfect microclimate. For the Sauvignon Blanc, more importance is placed on storability and minerality than obvious fruit.

Pannobile white

Since the ´99 vintage, Pannobile white has been made of 100% Chardonnay. The grapes come from a vineyard planted in 1963 on the Heideboden (Wiesacker). The old vines bring plenty of structure, substance and excitement to the wine and ensure great ageing potential.

Zweigelt

This classic Zweigelt comes from the Heideboden and is matured in large wooden barrels. A fruity, elegant wine with such juicy tannins and a fine structure.

Blaufränkisch Heideboden

Matured in used barriques. A fruit-accented Blaufränkisch that demonstrates its variety-typical character and opens up beautifully with air.

St. Laurent

Matured in used barriques. The grapes come from the Heideboden. A fruity, expressive wine in an elegant Burgundy style. Needs plenty of air while young (decanting is recommended). Very good ageing potential.

Edelgrund Blaufränkisch

Edelgund lies on the Heideboden and is comprised of gravelly black earth. The soil is rich in nutrients and, because of the gravel, warms up quickly – something that helps Blaufränkisch to ripen just perfectly.

Zweigelt Langer Acker

Made of grapes selected from the oldest vines planted – the 1960s - on the Heideboden. This wine is matured in barriques, of which 20% is new wood. Zweigelt Alte Reben demonstrates that also this variety has very good development and ageing potential.

Syrah

Syrah is planted on the Ungerberg and Spiegel. The soil is comprised of sandy loam, and the higher the site, the sandier the soil. The first 50 meters are often too dry and sandy for the Blaufränkisch variety. But Syrah shows its full power in these conditions. This variety represents the smallest share of our varietal range, so of course the quantity of the wine is small as well. Using the Syrahs of the northern Rhône as our orientation, our own Syrah is impressive with its spicy minerality and a typical note of white pepper.

Merlot

Merlot grows in our top vineyard sites, Spiegel and Ungerberg. Originally, Merlot was planted to add strength and juicy tannins to the Cuvée blends. But, because Zweigelt fulfills this task best and because the Blaufränkisch variety is an outstanding success in the Spiegel and Ungerberg, we decided in 2008 to gradually replace Merlot with Blaufränkisch.

Pannobile red

We´ve been producing Pannobile red since the 1992 vintage. The Pannobile group of winemakers was founded in 1994, and produces top-tier wines reflecting the richness of terroir and character. At Weingut Paul Achs, the Pannobile red is composed of the Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St.Laurent varieties. This wine is matured partly in new barriques. Charming in its youth, it also has very good ageing potential.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir has been with us since the 1989 vintage. It is one of the world´s great varieties; a true challenge to the winemaker. At Weingut Paul Achs, it is very important that elegance and finesse are the core of Pinot Noir. The sophisticated substance and power come from its low yield alone. It is very important that Pinot Noir grows in chalky-rich soils, so that its characteristic elegance is optimised. To achieve utmost typicity, we plant our Pinot Noir on slopes that are orientated to the west or to the north (Schafleiten, Spiegel, Gabarinza) or on the Heideboden. The wine is matured in barriques.

Altenberg Blaufränkisch

100% Blaufränkisch. The Altenberg yields wines that are very elegant and structured. Amongst our three top Blaufränkisch wines, the Altenberg is characterised by fine and elegant floral fruit, thanks to the shell limestone soil, and has very lengthy storagability. The wine is matured partly in new wood and is released for sale two years after the September harvest. The first Altenberg was vinified in 2000.

Spiegel Blaufränkisch

100% Blaufränkisch. Our very first Spiegel was vinified in 2002. The Spiegel is a spicy, elegant Blaufränkisch which always reflects body and substance. This single vineyard site between the Salzberg and Gabarinza gently slopes in the southerly direction, which guarantees full ripeness. The wine is matured partly in new barrels.

Ungerberg Blaufränkisch

We produced the first Ungerberg as a pure Blaufränkisch in 1997. Already at that time, we were excited about the quality and character of the wine, because this variety optimally reflects the terroir of the site. The wine is matured in barriques before it comes on the market two years after the harvest. Ungerberg is produced only from the best vintages.
