The Neusiedlersee.

Burgenland

The Neusiedler See is the largest steppe lake in Central Europe as well as the impressive genius loci of northern Burgenland. The surrounding Pannonian landscape, which has inspired so many paintings and pictures throughout the world, has been home to wine-growing for more than 2000 years. The hot Summers with little rainfall, combined with the temperature-balancing effect of the Neusiedler See and the overall Pannonian climate, create optimal conditions for wine-growing.

The Neusiedlersee

The Neusiedler see has a surface area of 320 sq. km; an 80 sq. km portion is within Hungary. It is the largest reed-growing area in Europe as well as a nature reserve with numerous species of fauna and flora. Vast and shallow, the lake has a maximum depth of 180 cm.

Gols

Close to the northern shore of the Neusiedler See, between the Parndorfer Platte and Heideboden, is Gols – the center of wine, the home of Pannobile.

Quality of Life

Organic land and livestock farming are strongly undertaken in the region. Many committed gastronomes indulge their discriminating guests with fresh Neusiedler See fish, the wonderful meat of the curly haired Mangalitsa pigs, steppe beef specialities, bio-cheese from sheep and goat, and much more. And there is a growing number of winemakers who are recognizing the quality and importance of sustainable wine-growing and organic farming.
